We take measures that help save energy, reduce wastefulness and properly manage waste.
We draw up annual plans to increase energy efficiency. We have recently introduced solar panels, low-energy bulbs, more efficient appliances and motion detectors.
The hotels' waste is recycled, including waste from the rooms. In some gardens we compost biowaste and we also separate rubbish.
We have introduced flow reducers in taps, an automatic watering system and more efficient pool filters. At the Vila Porto Mare resort, some of the water used in the gardens comes from the Piornais watercourse, and the water used to wash the pool filters is reused.
We make efforts to reduce paper usage by recycling it, and by prioritising printers with the "green print" seal, which also reduces energy usage.
The gardening team at the Vila Porto Mare resort also takes care of the upkeep of the green spaces around the hotel.
The Vila Porto Mare Resort was awarded 3rd prize in Funchal City Council's "Funchal - Flower City" competition.
This initiative has contributed to and enhanced Funchal's image as a "Garden City" and its main objective is to make Funchal a greener city.
