MADERIA ISLAND UPDATE ON FLOOD SITUATION
We are pleased to inform that the Porto Bay Hotels – The Cliff Bay, Porto Santa Maria, Eden Mar, Porto Mare and The Residence have not been affected by the flood and are operating normally.
The island of Madeira is returning to normal, after the adverse weather conditions, which took place on Saturday 20th February 2010.
The cleaning and recovery operation continues effectively, with a team of 2000 people made up of individuals from the public and private sector including the army, security forces and volunteers.
Electricity has been restored to the whole island except the Meia Légua district of Ribeira Brava.
Water has now been restored to the whole island.
Most schools on the island have reopened today, with the exception of the schools in Ribeira Brava and one school in Santa Cruz.
Mobile phone reception and internet connectivity is fully restored to the island.
Both Funchal Airport and the Harbour continue to be operational and running. The ferry boat connections to Porto Santo are also running a regular service.
The tourism areas of Estrada Monumental and Lido are operating normally.
The areas of Central Funchal, including the Cathedral, Avenida Arriaga and Avenida do Mar have been once again made accessible to tourists and Madeirans alike.
The main roads are still accessible from the East to the Ribeira Brava district.
The road from Ribeira Brava to São Vicente in the North of the island remains closed.
