PortoBay wins 5 awards at the Michelin Gala
In this year's edition of the Michelin Gala, on February 25, at the Alfândega do Porto Congress Center, the PortoBay Group was present for the eighth consecutive year. Il Gallo d’Oro renewed its two Michelin stars and the Green Star, Avista ensured its presence in the guide for the fifth consecutive year, Horta maintained its recommendation in the guide, and Avista Ásia was recommended by the Michelin Guide for the first time.
Il Gallo d'Oro, the restaurant at the five-star The Cliff Bay hotel in Funchal, renewed its two Michelin stars and the Green Star, reaffirming its status in Portuguese gastronomy. With a menu inspired by Iberian aromatic cuisine, the restaurant stands out for using fresh ingredients from Madeira Island, many of which come from the PortoBay garden, combined with high-quality products from other European regions. This fusion of flavors and focus on sustainability results in a sophisticated dining experience that celebrates the richness of local products with a creative and refined approach.
The Avista, the restaurant at the five-star Les Suites at The Cliff Bay hotel, located on a promontory by the Pirates’ Bay in Funchal, ensured its presence in the guide for the fifth consecutive year. Since its opening, Avista has been a constant presence in the guide, winning over diners with a cuisine that prioritizes the freshness of local ingredients such as vegetables from the PortoBay garden, fresh fish from the coast, seafood, and selected meats, always with a relaxed Mediterranean culinary approach. The proximity to the sea and the expansive views create an experience where the flavors harmonize with the landscape.
Another PortoBay Group restaurant to maintain its status in the Michelin Guide was Horta, located on the promenade of Lido and integrated into the Vila Porto Mare resort. Recognized for its concept of healthy and comforting food, the restaurant stands out for its use of fresh, local ingredients, many of which come directly from the PortoBay garden, a space dedicated to the sustainable production of herbs, vegetables, and other products that enrich its culinary creations. This approach reflects the hotel group’s commitment to promoting well-being and sustainable gastronomy.
The big news in this edition for the PortoBay Group was the Avista Ásia restaurant, which, for the first time, received the Michelin Guide’s recommendation. Sharing the same space as Avista, the restaurant offers a breathtaking view, where the sky and the Atlantic Ocean merge. Avista Ásia combines Asian cooking techniques with fresh Madeira ingredients, highlighting seasonal products. Among the specialties are sushi and sashimi made with local fish, black pork ribs, crispy tempura, and steamed bread, handmade every day.
It’s worth mentioning that the menus of Avista, Avista Ásia, and Horta are led by chef Benoît Sinthon, who heads the team at Il Gallo d’Oro, the restaurant awarded two Michelin stars and a Green Star.
