GOLF COURSES

There are two golf courses on Madeira Island and a third one on the neighbouring island of Porto Santo. The golf experience and the quality of the existing golf courses has gained international recognition with awards and distinctions.

In Santo da Serra, just metres from the PortoBay Serra Golf hotel there is a golf course with 27 holes, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. where most of the Madeira Islands Open tournaments have been held over the last two decades, part of the PGA European Tour.

The Rolex guide includes this course in its list of the best courses in the world. Just like the other two courses, this one is renowned for its fantastic views and challenging holes. All Madeira's courses are Par 72.

Palheiro Golf, with 18 holes, was designed by Cabell Robinson and opened in 1993. The course was changed in 2003. Two holes were replaced and a circuit of six holes was added. All 18 holes offer wonderful views of Funchal bay, with fast greens and narrow fairways that demand precise play.
