LISBON MUSEUMS

Calouste Gulbenkian Museum
Based on the private collection of the oil magnate Calouste Gulbenkian, the museum covers over 4000 years in the history of art. The pictures on show include works by Renoir, Rembrandt, Degas and Paula Rego. The museum is part of a complex that includes a concert hall, exhibition space, a park and modern art centre.

National Museum of Ancient Art
Housed in a beautiful 17th century palace, this museum is home to some very valuable Portuguese and international works, including the Saint Vincent Panels and the Namban screens. Today it also hosts events, fashion shows, parties and open nights.

Tile Museum
Tiles are a distinctive part of Portuguese culture, depicting daily life and religious themes. The Tile Museum is housed in a marvellous 16th century convent.

Berardo Museum Collection
The Berardo Museum Collection is a reference point in Lisbon where the best modern and contemporary art can be enjoyed. In both the permanent and temporary exhibitions, there are works by artists who have contributed to the history of art over the last century, including Marc Chagall, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and Joana Vasconcelos.

Coach Museum

MAAT - Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology
Located in Belém, next to the River Tagus, you won’t fail to notice this museum’s futuristic architectural design by renowned firm Amanda Levete Architects. MAAT puts on Portuguese and international exhibitions combining art, technology and architecture, and offers workshops and guided tours. Explore the exterior of the building too, and climb onto the roof to watch the sunset over the Tagus.
