This 120 km2 national park is just a small part of the extensive Atlantic forest that stretches along the Brazilian coast. Full of flora and fauna, it offers some challenging climbs and magnificent views in the middle of a lush wilderness. It is recommended to visit the park by car. Various agencies also offer trips and walks.
Divided into four sectors (Tijuca Forest, Serra da Carioca, Pedra Bonita/Pedra da Gávea and Pretos Forros/Covanca), the park stands out in the landscape as a huge green massif, in the centre of a metropolitan area with around six million inhabitants.
