SANTA TERESA

Romantic and scenic, Santa Teresa with its narrow streets and old houses does not even look like Rio de Janeiro. The neighbourhood stands on a hill in the heart of the city and seems to be frozen in time. It has retained aspects of Old Rio for decades and there is a piece of history on every corner. Writers and artists have always been attracted to Santa Teresa, seduced by its charm and its architectural and cultural riches. Here the Santa Teresa "Bondinho" is found, the cable car that has become the main means of transport in the city. You can ride it starting at Lapa and go on to the Cathedral.
