MARACANÃ

Renewed to host the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games, the Maracanã football stadium is also a tourist attraction.

Built for the World Cup in 1950, the largest football stadium was designed to hold 166,000 people, but today it has a capacity for 114,000. 

Football fans call Maracanã the 'Temple of the Gods', but in fact it doesn’t only play host to top footballers. The Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho has also staged concerts by Tina Turner, Sinatra, Prince and even the World Meeting of Families presided over by Pope John Paul II !!
